Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver 4.5 stars out of 5
Zero Hour.
Read more here

Zero Hour Dark Deceiver 86 out of 100
When Jasun and Troy Tipton blesses the progressive metal community with new creations people stops up, listens and tries to take in the complexity, technical level and writing skills of the two. The line-up is completed by Mike Guy and new guy; Chris Salinas, who is now fully integrated in the bands sound on this, his second Zero Hour album. Read more here.

Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver 9 out of 10
Click here to read more.

Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver
I've always appreciated a band that takes their musicianship seriously, and Zero Hour is one of those bands. These guys are amazing musicians and it's apparent from the first note to the last on their new release, Dark Deceiver . Zero Hour was formed in 1993 in San Francisco, and this marks the 6th release from the band. Click here to read more...

Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver (Sensory)
By: David E. Gehlke
A great idea on paper: the combination of over-the-top tech metal ala Cynic, Atheist, et al, with clean, progressive vocals, Zero Hour are now coming dangerously close to perfecting their own indelible brand of hyper-prog metal. Click here to read more...

Zero Hour have been around for a while and have released several CDs. They are well known to those who follow the progressive metal genre, but not as familiar to the rest of the metal world. Click here to read more...

Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver
9.5/10
When sitting down to write this review, I glanced at the insert that accompanied the promo. It read, "With their fifth studio album, Zero Hour creates a dark, heavy vibe, expressed through intricate arrangements, forceful vocals and meaningful lyrics." Typically, these inserts tend to blow a lot of smoke up one's ass. Click here to read more...

Zero Hour – Dark Deceiver
2008 Sensory/Laser's Edge Group
A couple years ago I interviewed this band and they said that when playing live it was common for a ‘mosh pit' to break out during their performance; damn straight it is. With music as aggressive as theirs, what are you going to do, sit in your fucking seat and rock back and fourth in a near catatonic state, I don't think so. From one of the heaviest and most technical progressive metal bands out there comes Dark Deceiver, one of Zero Hour's most challenging and aggressive pieces of work to date, border lining within the extreme metal fringes, yet keeping the melodic consciousness in full force at all times. Zero Hour - Dark Deceiver
If you read my review of the Blotted Science album a few weeks back, you'll know how dear I hold bands like Fates Warning , Watchtower and Spiral Architect close to my heart. California quartet, Zero Hour has been playing the kind of hi-tech progressive metal that not only falls into this kind of categorization, but also lives up to the mighty legacies these bands have created for themselves. ZH's new album, Dark Deceiver is the sound of a band driving forward with complete comfort and control. Click here to read more

Zero Hour: Dark Deceiver

If the metal world getting bashed over the head with the latest powerhouse from Meshuggah wasn't enough, technical prog-metallers Zero Hour are about ready to finish the job and leave us all obliterated into a pile of ash with their new CD Dark Deceiver . This band has consistently delivered top notch stuff, and their last release Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond in 2006 was considered one of the top albums of the year here at Sea of Tranquility. Well, Dark Deceiver ups the ante considerably my friends, both in terms of complexity and heaviness. Opening track "Power to Believe" might just be the most crushing piece this band has ever recorded, filled with brutal guitar riffs from Jasun Tipton and the always elastic jazz-fusion bass lines from brother Troy. Former Power of Omens singer Chris Salinas is back for his second album with the band, and he sounds right at home here, even getting in some nasty growls on this killer of an opening cut.
